I’m a really positive person, but I do like hearing about other people’s business low points, rocky moments and most importantly what they did to come out of it the other side.
So here are some lessons from June 2021 (still my worst month in business)- which didn’t shape up quite as I’d planned.
Just to give this a quick preframe – I have mega high expectations and I’m really hard on myself. It wasn’t a dreadful month but it wasn’t the month I’d planned
So what happened?
I got my husband to take the month off work.
We were away for part of the month, and the idea was if I had more time I’d make so much progress, I’d make more sales and it would be my best and biggest month ever. This would be my moment!
So what went wrong
Well, more time turned out to be a bad thing for me (ironic as I have always felt that more time was what I lacked!)
- I lost my focus
- I became less productive
- I missed my fun mornings
- I felt I had to work every second
- I felt under pressure
- The joy went a bit
I turned over 25% of what I’d planned. Arrrgh
What did I learn ?
I don’t need to work for long periods of time
I need short focused periods
Pressure doesn’t equal sales
I must stick to my founding principles of joy, fun and freedom
Lessons for you ….
What you have right now is probably fine. It is easy to lose hours tweaking and restarting logos and branding and other bits in your business.
Instead use the time, resources and set up you currently have and take action. Message old clients, call vets and move your business forward.
Stay true to what you want and believe and work on yourself – being busy for the sake of it really doesn’t get you anywhere. June was a helpful reminder of this for me.
